In the Telugu states the Diwali story belongs to Satyabhama. The demon king Narakasura could only be killed by his own mother, and Satyabhama, Krishna's queen and an incarnation of Bhudevi, took up the bow and defeated him in battle.
So Naraka Chaturdashi is the big day: an early oil bath, new clothes, and the whole street bursting crackers to celebrate the victory, followed by lamps and Lakshmi puja on Amavasya.
And the sweets are coastal Andhra royalty: Bandar laddu from Machilipatnam, juicy kaja from Kakinada, and the paper-thin putharekulu of Atreyapuram.
